About
Ross Macdonald is a professional bassist based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. His musical skills have taken him around the world, playing music in Dubai at the 7 star Burj al Arab, the tallest hotel in the world, and cruising on the world’s only residence ship, The World.
He currently plays the bass full-time in Victoria, BC. After obtaining his B.Mus in Jazz Performance from McGill University, he was a freelance musician on the Montréal scene for three years, spending winters playing in Las Vegas-style showbands and acoustic jazz trios for Princess Cruises, Holland America, and aboard The World of Residensea. He also enjoyed a five month run playing at Dubai’s world-renowned seven-star Burj al Arab hotel. Moving back to his hometown of Charlottetown PEI, he played with an even wider variety of groups, branching out by playing with the PEI symphony, PEI Regiment Band, and numerous jazz, folk, rock, classical, and country artists. He appeared on several ECMA and PEIMA winning albums, on CBC-TV and Vision TV. In 2009 he moved to Victoria, British Columbia, to play bass with The Naden Band. He has played upright and electric bass, guitar, and tuba in hundreds of venues with thousands of other musicians. He has also played in the Charlottetown Festival, PEI Jazz and Blues Festival and the Victoria International Jazz Festival.
